Do You Have PCOS? Understanding PCOS Symptoms

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, commonly known as PCOS, affects women worldwide, of all ages from ages 14-44; and PCOS symptoms can vary from person to person, but there are a few main culprits that often paint the picture of pcos: irregular periods and excess androgen levels, that leads to hair thinning and facial hair growth. In this blog post, we'll delve into these primary PCOS symptoms to help you better understand this condition; and then we will discuss what you can do to cure your PCOS.

Irregular Periods:

Irregular menstrual cycles are, unfortunately, a hallmark of PCOS. Many women experience infrequent or prolonged periods, or even skip periods altogether; which can make getting pregnant challenging. This happens because the hormonal imbalance disrupts the normal ovulation process. Instead of releasing a mature egg each month, the ovaries may produce small cysts, leading to irregular periods. For many women in my coaching programs, this is of great concern.

Excess Androgen Levels:

Androgens are typically considered male hormones, but women produce them too, though in smaller amounts. In PCOS, the ovaries produce excessive androgens, such as testosterone, which then manifests in various ways, including acne, excessive facial or body hair growth (hirsutism), and even male-pattern baldness - which for my clients is the worst symptom of all. These physical manifestations can significantly impact a woman's self-esteem and body image, leading to depression and anxiety.

PCOS affects each woman differently, and not everyone will experience these symptoms. If you suspect you may have PCOS or are experiencing anything like this, it's crucial to seek care to come up with a tailored treatment plan that addresses the root causes; because with the right, personalized, natural approach, PCOS can be managed effectively without pharmaceutical interventions.
